Dementia at Fifty!

Dementia, Venting, Too Young, Aging

Hi from Grand Rapids! 6/26/2023

Tragically we arrived in Michigan June 15th to attend my kind, funny, Jesus loving sister in laws funeral. She passed away June 8th on an Alaskan cruise doing what she absolutely loved. I’ll miss you Carol!

We were supposed to board a plane and head for home June 24th, but guess what? Plans changed! Larry has felt terrible this whole trip, he’s been short of breath, tired, anxious and just not himself. Thursday, June 22nd we decided to take a trip to the ER in Greenville just in case. I had assumed it was COPD acting up, but you know what they say about assuming….I had it wrong. By the time we arrived at the hospital his BP and heart rate were so high they took him back and administered meds to lower both, admitted him and of course said NO FLYING.

Here we go again!

After testing of all kinds the ultrasound showed fluid buildup around his heart and in his lungs. What’s so crazy to me is he’s been losing weight, not gaining. When he was admitted to the hospital Christmas Eve 2022 he weighed almost 230 pounds, when we left Florida for Michigan he weighed 189 and a week later 180 (he’s at 173 today). So…here we are and once enough fluid has left his body and the cardiology team says it’s ok for him to fly, we’re outta here!
